Bram Bos Mozaic no longer works in Auria

Post by Aph » Thu Apr 30, 2020 5:34 pm

A few months ago I created a project in Auria where I tested Mozaic with the “Instant Drums” code.
It worked perfect.
Today I loaded that project and it does nothing. No sound.
(Yes, tried every combination of Midi button and record button, etc.)
Creating a similar project in Cubasis 3 works.

I have Auria Pro 2.250... but this is the version that was “upgraded” from plain Auria. Apparently, there IS a difference.
Mozaic is the recent version (can’t find the version number in the app).
I’ve tried every combination of placement for Mozaic.

The only thing that works is placing Mozaic in a plug-in slot and then placing an Au instrument in the next slot.
Also, putting a Midi monitor plugin in the next slot proves that Midi is coming out of Mozaic... but the Lyra instruments are not receiving it.
i.e. It does not work with the built in instruments (it definitely used to).
iPad 6 (2018 9.7 inch)
iOS 13.4
Auria Pro 2.250 (upgraded from Auria)

Any chance you could upload a project, I could try. I am using Auria Pro on an iPad 2018 (iOS 12.3.1 since that still seems the most solid OS for audio) and Mozaic is working fine for me.

MozaicXNew.Project.zip
(51.82 KiB) Downloaded 262 times
Here's one.
My procedure:
Add MIDI track
Choose Lyra Rock Kit for the Instrument
Put Mozaic in a plugin slot
Under "Generative" in Mozaic Load button, choose Instant Drums
Change the drum numbers to 36, 38, 42, and 46
(hit the upload button in Mozaic)

This worked a couple versions ago.

The almost exact same procedure in Cubasis 3 works fine.

As an aside:
I did find out that the drum pads in Auria now just put out Note Offs and it does not work. The keyboard works fine.

I loaded your project and pressed record and the MIDI output recorded to the track.

Here is a video of what I did. It looked like it was already set up as you describe. This is the latest Auria Pro and iOS 12.3.1

Thanks a bunch for all your work. I appreciate you testing this out.

Did you get sound without recording? Did you get sound while recording?
I guess I should have mentioned that I usually didn't use "record" with my previous projects and Mozaic. It always worked when just pressing Play.
I really don't want to record for a few minutes and then hear the result later, especially with a randomized Midi generator.

As a matter of fact, Mozaic is great for writing programs for Midi filtering of the Midi track during playback... it wouldn't be logical to try and record the result.
Auria does not work in that regard anymore, either (yes, it used to).

Cubasis 3 works with just "Play" (the way Auria used to work).

Thanks again. :P

I guess I mis-read your initial report. i’ll Look at it again tomorrow or the day after.i mistakenly thought you were reporting that the MIDI wasn’t being recorded.

I can confirm that in the new version things work differently with plugins that do MIDI processing.

If you have an AUv3 plug-in as an insert effect that sends MIDI out, it will not trigger its track’s instrument! I tried both Mozaic and Fugue Machine. If they are inserts, their notes get recorded BUT don’t trigger the instrument for the track.

RIM, this used to work.

The workaround is to send the MIDI to another track but that shouldn’t be required.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on my initial post.

Thanks for the confirmation on the problem, Espiegel123!
