Recommend Your Best Mic
Recommend Your Best Mic
I need to get a better mic. I have one condenser and one dynamic, neither very high quality. I want something that lends itself to a rich vocal quality, but something that might work well for a "natural" all-in-one recording for guitar and vocals at the same time, just informal sitting there playing for YT videos etc. All suggestions welcome!!
I suppose I might need to look at MicroWarmer or something too. VocalLive just doesn't sound too good to me right now, but I assume it's more my mics. Any youtube video recommendations on the subject would be great too. I'm going through the Lynda tutorials as well.

Shure sm58 or Sennheiser e835 work well. Both around $100. I have had the same sm58 for 30 years or so. I like Apogee mic but don't use it very often.

Thanks.. checking it out

I use a studio projects C1 for everything except electric guitars. A truly awesome mic, IMO the best condenser on the market for the money.
It even makes my vocals sound good!

It would be helpful to know your budget, in order to recommend something appropriate =)

My favourite is my Audio Technica AT4033a. They came out at £650 but you can pick them up for about £300.
I use it for most things - sometime paired with an AKG C2000 (£100) on accoustic instruments.

If you are on a much tighter budget the AT2020 is pretty amazing value at about £75

These all need phantom power of course which is why I went for the Roland Capture Duo EX when I got my ipad a couple of years ago. These days you can pick one up for £105!

The Avantone Audio CK-1 would probably be a good choice.
Re: Recommend Your Best Mic
I'll second the AT2020 as an excellent budget mic.
